After 18 years, the infamous Dior Saddle Bag has officially made a comeback. It was seen under the arms of early fashion icons from Sarah Jessica Parker, Paris Hilton and to the OC’s darlings, Summer and Marissa. The Saddle Bag was the it accessory to have in the early 2000’s, and now it’s here to stay.
The bag was first created by John Galliano in 1999, while he was the Creative Director of the house. The bag was instantly popular and could be found donned on every socialite up and down Sunset Boulevard and Fifth Avenue. During Fashion Week in February 2018, Dior Creative Director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, decided to revamp the iconic dior bag and send it down the runway one more time.
She said considering the 90’s obsession the industry is currently going through, “I thought this collection would be an opportunity to revive its timeless beauty”. Grazia also stated in a press release, “I consider this icon of the house’s recent history the perfect accessory to deal with the battle that is daily life.”
The Saddle Bags relaunch comes at a perfect time, with social media illuminating “what’s next” in the industry. The logo frenzy and early 90’s trends that are currently making the biggest comeback, making it clear why the Saddle Bag quickly became one of the most recognizable pieces on Instagram, and the most sought after.
