  1. Thanks for the feedback! I really didn’t know if people would be able to tell or not. As for me, I can sometimes see a difference and be awed by the beauty of designer gowns, and sometimes I’m pleasantly surprised by an affordable dress that looks totally luxe and chic.

When I was getting married, I tried on some $10,000+ gowns (hey, you only get to shop for wedding dresses once) and many of them really did look, move, and fit in a way that blew my mind. But then there were lines like Watters and Pronovias that had reasonably priced and totally dazzling dresses. And I recently spotted a super chic vintage wedding where the bride was in a $600 gown from David’s Bridal, and she looked devastatingly gorgeous. (Let’s not even get started on the fact that $600 is considered really cheap for a wedding dress, when it’s actually a fairly large chunk of change for most young couples!)

Wedding dress spending is a funny thing. Most of us want to be sane and practical and even feel ashamed of dropping big bucks on a gown. Then again, that’s the dress you’ll be wearing when you’re gazed upon by friends and family, photographed more than any other day in your life, and videotaped for posterity. So it merits some consideration, and possibly even an investment, to have a dress that’s well-constructed and makes you feel beautiful. That’s one of the reasons I started Recycled Bride. I really thought it made sense to pass around these amazing frocks, reduce their cost, and help every bride find a way to wear the dress of her dreams.

There’s definitely a part 2 of this game in the RB blog’s future!

  2. Great post and sanity check that ALL brides should keep in mind. Especially because most guests haven’t been pouring over dress images for a year and won’t know the difference, so long as it’s flattering to the woman wearing it.

  3. What a great quiz — It shows that sometimes, you realy do not need to spend more moeny. BTW – I did great on this quiz….

  4. I got everything right except for the first set…although, in my defense, I was torn between the Kaveza and the Galina on which was the Kaveza. I have to disagree on the whole “can’t tell an expensive dress from an inexpensive one.” If you know fashion and you know what to look for, you can totally tell. That said, I don’t think anyone should buy a dress because it’s expensive. Buy what you love (and what you can afford) and who cares what anyone thinks! If you love it, it’s your day, and that’s all that matters!

  5. Well, I got the second set right (totally shapeless dresses always seem to be top monies.. never understood that) but the first set, I got the right two dresses but the wrong way around! oops!
