Kate Moss Vintage Wedding – Love or Hate?

Supermodel Kate Moss married her musician beau Jamie Hince in early July, in a vintage-style wedding at St. Peter’s Church in the Cotswolds. I can’t decide if I love or hate her look. Let’s examine the evidence: <!–more–>

Exhibit A: The Dress Designed by John Galliano, Kate’s dress has a really sweet and pretty vintage vibe. But it fits Kate a bit oddly, and looks like she’s not wearing a bra. Also, it gets sheer right around her…ahem…lady area, which is kind of distracting. Sexy is cool, but this just makes me squint at the place where her thighs meet (or don’t meet, in Kate’s case), and wonder if she’s having a wardrobe malfunction. So a dress that could have been insanely elegant ends up looking a bit slouchy and overly revealing. Hate that.

Exhibit B: The Hemline & Beading But…this may very well be the most beautiful beadwork and detailing I’ve ever seen on a wedding dress. Wowza. Now this is how you do shimmer and sparkle without it looking the least bit tacky. Love it.

Exhibit C: The Groom So the bouquets are a little bit “blah”…but Jamie Hince looks uber-dapper in his powder blue double breasted Yves Saint Laurent suit. LOVE him! However…

…what’s up with the ankles? I could be wrong here, but I’m not sure that these heavy black boots are what’s meant to be worn with a light-colored summer suit. And the resulting excessive bunching around the ankles makes Jamie’s legs look weird. Hate that.

Exhibit D: The Veil Absolutely, positively LOVE the ’20s style embroidered cap veil. It’s so rare to see something unusual or different done with a veil that’s actually pretty and flattering. Love love love it.

Exhibit E: The Rehearsal Dinner Duds Kate earns her reputation as a fashion icon at the rehearsal dinner in a vintage turquoise dress, and Jamie keeps up with his chic rock ‘n roll style. I like how they look here, maybe even better than on the wedding day! Love.

Final Exhibit: The Rings Kate and Jamie traded simple gold bands, which is a trend that’s quickly gaining steam. What most people probably won’t like is that Kate paired the yellow gold band with her platinum and diamond ring — on the finger. But I dig it. It breaks the rules in a way that works because it’s playful and the proportions of the delicate band compliment the more substantial diamond ring. Love it.

Overall, it’s kind of a toss-up for me. There were some beautiful details that could have been totally breathtaking with just a teeny-tiny bit more effort. And I’m mildly disappointed that it wasn’t more unique or iconic, considering Kate’s reputation for walking on the edge with her fashion choices.
