Eye Candy

Inspired wedding cakes to sweeten your weekend

TGIF, people! After a busy and exciting week here at Recycled Bride headquarters, I’m looking forward to a weekend of sweet relaxation, sleeping in, and lazily admiring this wedding cake eye candy. <!–more–>

These gorgeous cakes are part of a fantastic slideshow on NYMag.com. Check out the Van Gogh-style oil painting effect. That’s frosting, and it looks like a well-crafted oil painting. How did they do it? Most people can’t even make oil paint into a well-crafted oil painting.

The slideshow is advertised as “Cakes for every budget”, which is kind of questionable since the pricing ranges from  from $6 – $20 per slice. But even if you can’t afford one, they sure are purty to look at, and make great inspiration for your own (slightly less extravagant) version.

Those flowers on the double happiness cake? Sugar! And so anatomically correct, they must have been made by a botanist instead of a baker.

This dulce de leche cake by Momofuku Milk Bar is an elegant and unexpected deconstruction of the typical fondant-iced wedding cake. It’s just $6 per slice, and comes from one of the hippest eateries in NYC. Planning a Brooklyn loft wedding. You just found your cake.
