What happens when a bunch of eco-conscious bloggers get together to talk, party, and trade insider scoop on the lastest green living trends? Find out all this week, as I report on the amazing people, products, and ideas I discovered at the Green Blogger Convention, hosted by EcoStiletto.com at Environment Furniture in LA on 11/7. <!–more–>
The day began with a who’s who of eco-bloggers mixing and mingling over delicious churros and organic cafe de olla supplied by the sustainability-conscious chefs at Border Grill. Chemical-free mini-makeovers were provided by the talented makeup artists from Terra Firma Cosmetics. Thirsty bloggers drank water by Nika, who donate 100% of their profits to bring clean water to under-privileged areas around the world. Steam Salon staffers created magnificent, hairspray-free updos. And manicurists were on hand (Yeah that’s right, I punned) to pretty our typing-ravaged blogger nails using Sheswai Lacquer, a DBP, formaldahyde and toulene-free polish.
While the bloggers busied ourselves getting primped, pampered, and educated, reporters from the E! network’s That Morning Show interviewed Rachel Lincoln Sarnoff, founder of EcoStiletto, green fashion and beauty blogger, mother of three and GreenBlogCon organizer (Phew! How does she do it?). Then came the highlight of the day: A panel featuring prominent green bloggers from across the nation sharing their thoughts about everything from the future of blogging to creating sustainable business models.
The panel included environmental journalist Starre Vartan, IdealBite.com founder Jen Boulden, Jane Buckingham of Trendera.com, Green LA Girl Siel Ju, Lauren Selman of Reel Green Media, and Skinny Bitch co-author Kim Barnouin. The insights provided by this illustrious panel were inspiring, entertaining and informative (and occasionally laugh out loud funny — thanks for the memories, Mrs. Buckingham!). I can’t possibly say enough about these women and the important work they’re doing. The RB Blog will be featuring highlights and details about their individual projects all this week.
As if all that excitement were not enough, the day finished on a high note with an eco-vegan fashion show featuring stylish sustainable designs from EcoSkin, Doie, Deborah Lindquist and Stewart + Brown.
Stay tuned for photos and video from the fashion show and way more from GreenBlogCon 2009!
