Photo Project Celebrates Real Mama’s Bods

What a cool concept! Photographer Ashlee Wells Jackson has created a photo series called the “4th Trimester Bodies Project“. It embraces the changes brought to women’s bodies by motherhood. It can be hard enough trying to get used to a new body after giving birth, but with the added pressure and unrealistic expectations that pile on top everytime a supermodel has a baby and bounces back to stick figure status in 3 days…well, it doesn’t help, not one bit!

It’s so great to see real women who, on a daily basis, struggle with their body image, who don’t feel they measure up with who the media tells them to be, being showcased and celebrated for their curves. But more importantly, I imagine it’s probably cathartic for the women themselves who, if brave enough to participate in the project, get to redefine beauty for themselves.
